Artful Reverie

I wish I could help someone dream

to bid them goodnight

and guide their nighttime wandering

I want to remind them

of the small comforts in life

tea, warm baked goods, autumn air

I want to create scenes of beauty from the mundane

the calming anarchy of graffiti on a city wall

shadows of people in well loved concrete

I want to evoke feelings of nostalgia over nothing

memories of people long forgotten

and euphoria over the smallest of things

I want them to hear the sounds of humanity

emotions and instruments crafted into art

a connection between competitors and companions alike

I wish I could help someone dream

if only to provide a light

in an overwhelming darkness

what am I but an artist

in only their eyes

and for only a night
